On Sunday 16 June, COLECTIVA invite Heavy Jazz ensemble Yusufla to South East London’s favourite collective space. Free, deep and uplifting vibes are the name of the game as Yusufla perform a set before opening the stage to musicians – female, non-binary + allies – to explore all areas of their sound together in an open jam session.
:: about Yusufla ::
Yusufla features an unusual trio of saxophones in the front line, creating a textural cinematic sound that is wholly their own. Crafted in close harmony and deeply influenced by their name-sake Yusef Lateef, Yusufla are proving themselves to be some of the most interesting musical innovators of 2019.
Rachel Jackson – alto sax
Imogen Walker – sop sax
Celyn Lloyd Thomas – tenor sax & keys
David Senez Ruiz – bass
James Storer – drums
:: about Colectiva ::
Comprised of some of London’s most exciting female musicians, Colectiva explore the spaces between Afro-Latin music and Jazz while reflecting on themes of sisterhood and female empowerment.
