🥁 🎶 As part of FIRST TIMERS 2018, Laura Ankles and Freer Ideas (Jaca Freer) from Colour Me Wednesday are facilitating a drum workshop for ALL LEVELS.

Never touched a drum kit before? Had a couple lessons? COME MAKE NOISE!

They’ll help you get to know the drum kit and give you all their
🔥 hot 🔥 tips on posture, stick grip and adjusting kit. Using practice pads, you’ll be taught stretches & technique & OF COURSE there will be drum kits available on the day so you can have a go playing the kit!

If you have drumsticks and a practice pad feel free to bring these, though there will be sticks and pads available on the day. We recommend bringing materials to make notes with.

💖 About First Timers Fest 💖

FTF is a season of workshops followed by a two-day festival where every band plays its first show. FTF is about getting new faces and voices in bands, and doing something about the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community.

As a direct way of addressing the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community, our workshops centre people who are disabled (visible or non-visible), LGBTQIA+ folk, people of colour, and women. As well, we are here to support people who have never played in a band before // never played the instrument they’ve always wanted to learn before because of their class, race, gender, mental health, etc.

Our 2018 festival will be taking place on May 5th & 6th 2018. Applications are open until 1st March: goo.gl/jSZRk3

💖 About the venue, DIY Space for London 💖

DIY Space for London is on a single floor level, with access ramps, widened doors, an accessible toilet and plenty of space for manoeuvring and getting away from crowds. There is plenty of seating available and the toilets are gender neutral and accessible.

On entering the venue there is a small ramp, which is quite steep and might require assistance going up and down. If you are a wheelchair user and not travelling with anyone, let us know in advance you are coming so someone at the venue can be there to assist.

If you would like to discuss access, please get in touch or visit our website:https://diyspaceforlondon.org/access

Email – access@diyspaceforlondon.org

Phone – 020 7635 9470 (Leave a message and we will respond)

Postal – 96-108 Ormside St, London SE15 1TF

Response time – Someone will be able to respond within 5 days

Our volunteers are happy to meet event attendees at the nearest bus stop, please contact to arrange.

DIY Space has an Access Group that is always working to improve accessibility. Most recently it worked towards making DIY Space For London the UK’s first volunteer-run venue to achieve Bronze status on the Charter of Best Practice from Attitude Is Everything – a charity that improves Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music.
