After four years fundraising and four months building, your local not-for-profit community arts and resource centre is open for business. Yes, DSFL is at Unit 1, 96 – 108 Ormside Street, SE15 1TF.
What has been a small group of people needs to mushroom massively to cover the work involved in the many amazing things that will go on in the space.
How is the space run? Well, it’s a cooperative business and a members club. It has lots of different uses, each of which is overseen and run by a series of interlinking collectives that help generate income to pay rent and outgoings. Coop members sit in each collective alongside many other Club members and make group decisions about how each area of the space is run. We need LOTS new people to be part of this process.
Every single one of these collectives is looking for new members, and Sunday 11th October is the day to make yourself known if you can spare some time to get involved. We are looking for enthusiastic, accountable humans of every persuasion who want to help make it happen. Every level of skill and none accepted. Here are just some of the collectives that need help:
Practice Space Collective
Community Room Collective
Print and Darkroom Collective
More info on each to follow. You may not have a lot of time or you may want to get stuck in up to a few days or nights a week! It’s your call, every amount of help is helpful.
From Midday on 11th Oct we will hosting an info day where you can ask questions and join a collective, find out more about how each one works and the ways you can help. It’s an informal day and everyone will be welcome. We’ll be screening our build videos, eating cake and drinking coffee from Joeys’s Kitchen, our in-house vegan cafe, and listening to records from TOME Records, our in-house independent record shop, which will also be open for business.
More info will be posted about the format of the day, but this is your opportunity to get stuck in, so please save the date!
