Shake Appeal #10: Snob + Big Joanie + The Snivellers + Knifedoutofexistence + Static Shock DJs

26/10/2017 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

£6

All proceeds go to Green and Black Cross and Southall Black Sisters.

This Shake Appeal is vaguely Halloween themed, so fancy dress is optional but highly encouraged.

BIG JOANIE is a black feminist punk band based in London, formed in 2013 for First Timers Weekend and appearing at Shake Appeal fresh from a UK tour with Downtown Boys. Self-described as “The Ronettes filtered through 80s DIY and riot grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis”, the band have released on Tuff Enuff Records and their own Sistah Punk Records.
“The music recalls nothing so much as the sub-scene of avant-garde post punk that mushroomed during the cassette culture of the late 70s/early 80s, particularly some of the releases on the It’s War Boys label.” (Kris Smith – Loud Women)

SNOB is deathly-pummelling hardcore punk, playing one of their first London show of 2017 following an EU tour with Nachthexen last year and a raging set at Static Shock Weekend ‘16.
Snarling, sardonic and propulsive; distorted and displeased; a clattering and confrontational message to you via Rudi Peni. Featuring members of Good Throb, Sarcasm et al – their debut LP is forthcoming on La Vida Es Un Mus.
“Creepy polyrhythmic hardcore infused with claustrophobia and righteous indignation, Snob borrow from the squat-punk bangers of yesteryear but update it with black humour and volleying a torrent of abuse and poisonous snark at today’s worst establishment lizards.” (Bryony Beynon)

THE SNIVELLERS is a new Brighton band made up of people that have also played in Joanna Gruesome, King Of Cats, and Shecket.
Snotty punk that sounds a bit like Doc Corbin Dart fronting a wirey brat punk band.
“12 minutes of blistering provincial camp hardcore awaits” (Dictionary Pudding)

KNIFEDOUTOFEXISTENCE is a project of Brighton-based noise artist Dean Lloyd Robinson that is “fixated on the duality between energy release and its very suppression; the act of catharsis and the forces – both external and internal – that conspire to stifle it.”
Distorted electronics meld and bleed into serrated, screaming feedback, amongst obscured vocals and churning rhythms.
Third full-length ‘Inhibitors’ has just been released on Outsider Art and Illegal Activity.
