Shake Appeal #8: Apostille / Sarcasm / Owner / Mat Riviere / Tweedle

25/08/2017 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

All proceeds go to Rethink and London Campaign Against Police and State Violence.

APOSTILLE is the solo synth/punk/performance project of Night School Records’ founder and Anxiety/The Lowest Form member Michael Kasparis. Instigated with a credo to “to bridge the gap between audience and performer, to connect through the fog of power structures and post-modernism; to ferment a direct pop music unconcerned with control”, Kasparis is known for intense live performances that switch between the ecstatic and the absurd in a matter of moments. https://apostille.bandcamp.com/

SARCASM is a band of dystopian post-punks that eschew conventional distortion in favour of nonchalant non-violence – all sparse, skeletal shake-downs and locked grooves. Back at Shake Appeal again after appearing at May’s show, this is the London date of their UK tour with Owner. Spitting and snarling, they clatter and march incessantly through a brooding and bleakly modern malaise. “This is the sound of the past, the sound of now and the sound of dissatisfaction.”
Their debut 7” was recently released on Static Shock Records.

OWNER is a great new London punk band, playing Shake Appeal as part of their UK tour with Sarcasm. Members of Score, Primitive Parts and Retrofuture do high-energy over-the-edge dark-feeling power-punk that feels both timeless and urgent. Their first demo tape has been recorded by Jonah Falco (Career Suicide/Fucked Up) and is due imminently.

MAT RIVIERE creates skewed self-aware and distinctly individual pop music that’s minimalistic, atmospheric and uplifting in equal measure. An intently haphazard montage of loops, voices, strings and percussion that give foundation to vulnerable narratives which express “an undeniable sorrowfulness about the past and present moment, punctuated by a feeling of abstract, distant optimism about those exact same things.” (Karl Smith)

TWEEDLE is a new solo project by Rory Salter (Pink Grip/Nervous Energy tape label) making its debut live performance; a wash of found sounds and experimental tape noise that “is rife with Dictaphone (or more likely downloaded smartphone app) crackle, bedroom-soldered synth buzz, snatches of poetry, gnomic prose or diary entries” (The Quietus).
