STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL #97
DIÄT (Berlin, Iron Lung Records)
Brought together by a shared enthusiasm for bleak UK punk and a history of playing in hardcore bands, Berlin based DIÄT have created a sound that they have described, perhaps not entirely seriously, as ‘tough new wave’. Fans of Crisis, Killing Joke and The Mob (UK) should be pleased by the band’s unlikely synthesis of depressive drift and cranked, accelerated energy.
‘Positive Energy’ was hands down the best post-punk record of last year and I’m really excited that they’re back in London!
GOOD THROB (London / Barcelona(!))
GT will be playing their first show in months as all members will be in the same country at the same time. Hopefully their new single on La Vida Es Un Mus will be ready in time for the show as well?
CHAIN OF FLOWERS (Cardiff, Alter Records)
I’ve spent the last twenty minutes trying to figure out the best way to describe them, and the closest thing I can think of to do them justice is to imagine The Chamelions playing ‘Hymns Of Faith’. Their debut LP came out a few months ago on Alter and it’s a banger.
Retrofuture appeared in November 2013 from an Estate in Homerton. They came from 2015 through the washing machine. They play pataphysic punk with absurd lyrics, primitive sounds, emotional vocals and fresh synths.
New local blood with members of Efialtis and Snob. Demo out soon I believe?
