Last month, we offered all members a chance to come down during our refurb and bring their ideas about how to change DIY Space for London for the better. We called this process Future Sight, and it enabled some deep reflecting on how far we’ve come in four years of operation, and some clarity on things we could be doing better.
Many of the changes are about a shift towards a more sustainable structure, and away from ad-hoc processes that can lead to burnout or make it hard for new people to get involved.
In August, we will be restructuring the collectives around three team-areas (Design, Operations and Events) and begin advertising for new, part-time, paid coordinator roles to help support the collectives, transforming our programming, our ability to get things done, and the environment in the building itself. We will be keeping our flat, accountable structure.
Other changes are about clarifying what we believe in, doing more locally, becoming a day time destination, fixing certain loopholes and communicating better.
